Stress-Busting Ways to Relax and Unwind

When you are trying to juggle work, family, socialising, exercising, completing your household chores, and a million other responsibilities, you can find that your stress levels shoot through the roof. And when you do get a few minutes to yourself, your mind can end up working overtime and you are unable to get the rest and relaxation that you sorely need. Many people feel guilty simply from wanting to take a break. But giving yourself the opportunity to relax can help to make all your other responsibilities so much easier.

Use Your Breath

One of the simplest ways of unwinding is a simple one. Controlling your breath can go such a long way towards helping you feel the sense of relaxation that you are seeking. Just a few deep breaths can go a long way towards helping you to feel calmer. But if you are looking for a couple of activities which are focused on helping you to control your breathing, meditation and yoga should certainly be at the top of the list.

Write in a Journal

If you feel like you are always in your head, it can help you out in a big way to get your thoughts down on paper. You could make a list of bullet points about what is worrying you so that you can come back to these at another time. You simply won’t be able to deal with them as effectively as possible if you feel like you can never properly relax. Alternatively, you could try writing out a list of the day’s triumphs or some things which are going well to give you the personal boost that you are looking for.

Control the Environment and Other Factors

The place where you go to relax should be somewhere that you feel at peace. This could be a room in your house or it could be an outdoor setting such as your local park. You can also control other factors like the clothes that you are wearing, so take a look at some gym king attire which is designed to be casual and laid back. You also need to find an opportunity to relax, so try scheduling ahead of time so that you can find this opportunity.

Take a Short Nap

Some people don’t like to take naps as they find that it leaves them feeling exhausted for the rest of the day, but this generally is only the case when you fall asleep for too long. Around 20 minutes is a good length of time which is enough to recharge your batteries without you falling into the kind of deep sleep which is going to make you feel groggy.

Ultimately, you need to find out what works for you when you are trying to relax as this varies from person to person. But these are just a few of the general activities which you could try that you will hopefully find to be helpful in unwinding.

  1. I find having a bath with Netflix and some bubbles really help me unwind – just as long as there is no children crying downstairs then its achievable!
Thank you for sharing this with us at #TriumphantTales. I hope to see you again next week!
