Keeping your home and your family safe is something that many people worry about. There are thought to be an average of 525 homes being burgled each day, and falling victim to this intrusive and upsetting crime can be worrying for anyone.

Home security measures allow you to protect what you own and those you love to limit your risk of being burgled and violated in this way.

CCTV/Video Cameras

Most people these days have either a video doorbell or some type of CCTV monitoring system. This allows you to access footage typically via an app on your phone to see what is going on at home. You can see who is approaching or calling your home and get real-time footage should anyone break in, allowing you to alert the authorities wherever you are.

Burglar Alarms

Burglar alarms are alarms you can set for part or the whole of your home when you are away from the property or in bed, for example. You set the alarm with a code, and it activates, meaning if anyone breaks any of the barriers in the palace, the alarm sounds and alerts you of an intruder. Typically, burglar alarms will be set for external doors when entering or leaving a property, and modern systems can be integrated with your smart home setup if you have one, allowing you to monitor your home in real time and get the full benefits from the alarm.

External Lighting

We’ve all seen and heard the stories of criminals targeting homes or vehicles under the cover of darkness. The darkness protects their anonymity and allows them to conduct their nefarious activities secretly. Lighting removes this option for them. Motion sensor lighting, both indoors and outdoors, means they will be illuminated if they trigger it, and this can be an excellent deterrent, especially when coupled with security cameras, as they won’t be able to hide.

Locks and Deadbolts

You need to make sure that all windows and doors are lockable so you can provide extra security for your home by locking people out and making it harder for them to gain access. Security chains on front doors, deadbolts and various other locks can be added to doors or even windows to make it that much harder to gain access from the outside.

Lock It Away

The less you have on show for people to see what you own, the better. This goes for leaving valuables on display to identify via windows, high-value items, games, noodles, leaving your garage exposed, or even leaving bikes in the garden. All of these allow thieves to see what you have, and what is worth stealing, and increase your risk of falling victim to them. If they cannot see what you have or even see in the property, then they won’t know if it’s worth the risk to enter.

Protecting your home is important. The last thing you want is for a stranger to gain access to go through your belongings as if they have a right to take them. These security options can provide you with added protection and help you remove the risk of falling victim to being burgled.
