Twenty Years From Now – A Featured Instagrammer

I recently posted this photograph on Instagram. Subsequently, I shared it via the #InstaLinky hosted by Mummy in a Tutu. Today I was surprised to discover that I had been chosen as the featured Instagrammer of the week!

The post which seemed to be the key to my selection is this one of Delilah looking out to sea. It was taken on the Poseidon, a pleasure cruise boat, whilst we were sailing around the Aegean Sea on our recent holiday in Kos.

I’d been looking for the right caption to go with this shot. It seemed to have something about it that required the correct words. It was Levison Wood, the UK explorer, who inspired me to use a Mark Twain quote.

~Mark Twain~

Twenty years from now

There are people who don’t believe in inspirational quotes. But for me, any words that make to stop and think are worth reading. They are worth taking on board and they might just mean something to you.

This quote hit me quite hard. It’s so true. It seems to be human nature to focus on the disappointment of failure rather than the happiness of success. When I’m 58, our children will be all grown up and doing their own things (I hope), I want to be able to look back and smile. I want to be able to remember the things we did and have no regrets that we could have done or tried something that we didn’t.

Quote misattribution

I have to admit that I took Levison’s word for it that this was a Mark Twain quote. My research tells me that although he is commonly attributed to it, there’s no actual evidence that he wrote it. If you want to find out a little more about this check out quoteinvestigator.com.

Nevertheless, I love the quote. It did make me stop and think and it has had an effect on me. Whoever wrote it – thank you!

Thanks for reading

Dave
