I’m Running the Yorkshire Marathon

Eight years ago I was training for the very first Run For All Yorkshire Marathon. The training was going well and I was looking forward to it. But then I injured my knee on a long night run and that ended my chances of making it to the start line in York that year.

I never signed up again after that, and to this day Blackpool 2017 remains my only marathon. But, I always wanted to run more and the coronavirus pandemic put pay to my return to Blackpool in 2020. Now I’ve taken the plunge and I’ve signed up for the 2021 Yorkshire Marathon with only 10 weeks until race day!

Last weekend I ran 14 miles and that was my longest run for some time. Today I ran another half marathon (13.1 miles) and I feel great for it. I’d forgotten how much I enjoy these longer runs, especially out on the lanes of Ryedale in North Yorkshire.

I’ve quickly thrown together a 10-week training plan that I will have to tweak and alter on the fly given my travel to Wales every couple of weeks. Though, the hills of Snowdonia will certainly provide me with some good training opportunities.
